Disobedient Access Requests

This disobedient access request came about through a commissioned audio piece for the Tate Modern and their Electric Dreams FM radio show. This radio show and audio pieces were supposed to create an accessible accompaniment to the main in person Electric Dreams exhibition. Through this commission I started an inquiry to feel out the limits of these institutions and the capacities a disobedient access request has to disrupt, (dis)orient and refuse institution's normalized configurations.

The pairing of the audio piece and the access request act together as a refusal of big tech through both artistic and creative methods, as well as through direct actions and hacking. The audio piece refuses to situate itself within the normalized narratives of technology and asks how crip studies can unfold other relations and connections to technologies, our bodyminds, ecologies and embodied sense-making. Through this poetic recipe bringing together politics and imaginaries that manifest intimate practices that aims to affirm lives through affirmation and care. The accompanying disobedient access request refusing to be captured by the Big Tech Cloud, and in doing so questioning what the capacities access making and knowledge have to directly challenge and shape the configurations and infrastructures of institutions.

Audio Piece with Electric Dreams FM

This entry shares the audio piece on the Electric Dreams FM website. This holds the edited down poem and recording for you to listen to or read.

A screen shot from a contract with the Tate displaying a "Note" disclaiming it cannot be shared on platforms run by Google LLC An image that shares a screenshot of a contract and how the access request I made brought into contracts my refusal of Big Tech platforms (Google) with my media. This was only a small gesture but aimed to wiggle room towards the promise of access as a practice which can retreat from these normalized violent institutions and configurations.
