Collective Infrastructures

This was a combined panel run by In-grid members at 4S/EASST 2024 in Amsterdam. For this, we brought together a panel of different collectives and communities who are actively practicing and re-imagining what their collective infrastructures are through situated practice and direct action. This included members of TITiPI, NEoN Digital, Júlia Nueno Guitart, and SHAPE. Alongside the panel In-grid members also ran the first iteration of the Practicing Protocols workshop which made room for collaborators to get in touch with network infrastructure, and to make-sense of their configurations, protocols and relations from their embodied expertise and background knowledges.

This combined panel and workshop offered up the many ways that collective practices and contexts manifest and situate infrastructural practice with and for different politics, expertise and capacities. In this approach, aiming to share how infrastructures are shaped by the communities, backgrounds and desires that manifest them. With the workshop especially bringing focus to the ways this can be done within technical practices by making room for peoples backgrounds and embodied expertise to come into contact with and shape how these infrastructures are encoded and manifested through situated practices and accessible dialogues.

Panels Conference Page

This entry shares the page for the combined panel on the 4S/EASST conference page. Here you can read who was involved and the agenda for the events.

Practicing Protocols workshop resources

This entry shares the resources used for the workshop element of the combined panel. These are a few fairly accessible steps of logging into a local server and writing a file but offering lots of Wiggle Room around them to make sense of and imagine these relations we encounter otherwise.

Hosted workshop notes

This entry links to the collective notes made during the workshop on the html file we edited in the workshop. On it are the reflections and sense-making of frictions and misfitting collaborators made when being in contact with the configurations, protocols and norms of network infrastructure.
